This is a Tokubetsu Hozon certified tsuba by Tobari Tomihisa, an accomplished student of Goto Mitsutaka, the 13th generation head of the Goto main family. Tomihisa, who later became independent, created this piece on a shibuichi nanako ground with high-relief carving and inlay depicting people pulling a boat and transporting goods. The reverse features gold kiritsugi-iroe with kebori engravings of plants, showcasing a unique technique that adds softness to the design compared to his master's work.
