It with Aikuchi Koshirae and the blade has carving. 「体配 style」 平造り庵棟。身幅広く重やや太く、反り僅かでふくら程よく枯れる。茎は生で化粧鑢がかかり、茎尻は栗尻。 「彫物 carving」 差表には素剣と梵字、差裏には護摩箸が彫られる。 「地鉄 jigane」 板目肌に小板目が交じり良く詰み、地沸厚く付き、地景が入る。 「刃紋 hamon」 互の目、刃緑微塵に沸が付き、砂流しかかり、刃中金筋が入る。釯子は乱れ込み深く返る。 「特徴 detailed」 月山貞一(二代)、父親は刀工の月山貞勝。1907年(明治40年)大阪府に生まれる。本名は月山昇。 父から刀剣の製作技術を学び、1929年(昭和4年)には昭和天皇に贈呈される大元帥刀を父とともに作刀。父の死後は大阪陸軍造兵廠の軍刀鍛錬所責任者に就任した。戦後は連合国軍最高司令官総司令部の指令により作刀ができなくなり不遇の時期を過ごしたが、1954年(昭和29年)に武器等製造法が施行されると文化財保護委員会から許可を受けて作刀を再開、1966年(昭和41年)に祖父の名である月山貞一を名乗った。 1967年(昭和42年)新作名刀展で正宗賞、文化財保護委員長賞を受賞。1971年(昭和46年)重要無形文化財保持者、1979年(昭和54年)勲四等旭日小綬章受賞。 1995年(平成7年)4月1日、心不全のため奈良県桜井市の済生会中和病院で死去。 本作品は、人間国宝指定された翌年に作られた短刀で、師が心身共に最高の時に作られたものです。大神神社の御神刀の影打ちで、彫物も師自ら手掛けたものです。 刀身が納まる拵は古い金具を使って作られています。頭、合口、栗形、コジリは四分一の一作で、図柄は唐草の図。 鮫は親粒が付き、柄糸は卯の花色の諸摘み巻き。目貫は四分一地鶴丸の図です。小柄、笄は二所物で赤銅金張りに銀無垢の龍を据えています。人間国宝月山貞一の作品が市場に出回る事が少なく貴重です、この機会を逃さないようお願いします。 「拵 Koshirae」 ハバキ(habaki) :銀無垢二重の五月雨鑢。 頭合口金具、栗形、コジリ(kashira,Aikuchi,kurikata,kojiri):四分一の一作、唐草の図。 目貫(menuki) :四分一地鶴丸の図。 小柄(kozuka):赤銅雲龍の図。 笄(kogai):赤銅雲龍の図割笄。 柄(tsuka) :鮫は親粒が付き、柄糸は卯の花色の諸摘み巻き。 鞘(saya) :黒呂。 「刀剣の状態 condition of blade」 研:良好です。 傷:欠点に成るような傷は有りません。

Shōwa to the present: destruction and revival
The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
A Hozon-certified blade judged to show notably superior workmanship and a better state of preservation. The bar is higher: re-tempered blades and most unsigned Muromachi/Edo works are excluded.
The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
