NihontoWatchNihontoWatch笠間一貫斎繁継は、明治十八年静岡に生まれ。叔父の宮口一貫斎繁寿、森岡正吉の門人で、本名は笠間義一。宮内省御刀係拝命。日本東部鍛練刀工業組合副理事長、東京赤坂日本刀伝習所師範、日本刀鍛錬法の復旧伝承に努めます。帝展最優位に入選し、数々の献上刀を作成しました。人間国宝となった宮入昭平、繁継の女婿となった塚本起正の師としても知られる現代の名工の一人です。昭和40年3月11日没。80歳にて没。笠間一貫斎繁継、一貫斎正輝、一貫斎繁継、一貫斎笠間繁継、繁継、などと刻銘します。 本作体配は、刃長が二尺〇寸八分強。大東亜戦争に合わせて上級士官用に鍛刀された御刀です。この刀が造られた昭和12年は、ちょうど昭和20年まで続いた大日本帝国と中華民国の間で戦争が始まった年です。2尺刀と呼ばれた軍刀に仕込んで一番良いであろう長さの刀が盛んに打たれた時でした。本刀は笠間一貫斎繁継の注文打の御刀ですから、数ものと称される刀とは全く違い、美術刀剣として鑑賞されるに不足が無い御刀です。身幅も元先刃幅が広く、重ねも厚く確りとした、質実剛健な造り込みの御刀です。地鉄は、板目肌鍛がやや流れ心で地沸が付く精美で強靭な地鉄です。刃文は、匂口締まり心で小沸が付き明るく冴えて、逆さ掛かった華やかで見事な丁子乱れを焼いています。刃中には足長く入り、葉が現われ働きます。帽子は、上品に直となって小丸へ返ります。茎は生ぶで丁寧な化粧鑢が施され達筆な銘が刻されています。 笠間一貫斎繁継は、市場に出ることが少なく、特に刀で丁子刃文の作は希少性高いものです。戦時にこれだけの刀を持っていたのは如何なる軍人であられたのか。本品は入念作の一振で、笠間一貫齋繁継の傑出した出来栄えを顕著に呈した姿美しい御刀の優品となります。白鞘、銀無垢一重はばき。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
