NihontoWatch筑州住宗重刀匠は、本名を古城重昭。昭和7年生まれの刀匠です。宗勉刀匠(無鑑査刀匠)の父である、宗弘刀匠に鍛法を学びました。宗勉刀匠とは兄弟弟子の関係になります。同工の作品は刀工銘に「笹露(ささのつゆ)」と冠し製作された一腰をはじめ、宗勉刀匠と同様によく切れる現代の業物刀として斬れ味に優れて定評があります。※笹露・・笹の葉につく露を払えばすぐに落ちる事に例えた、斬れ味を評したもの。 本刀は、刃長二尺四寸、身幅、重ね尋常で、反り頃合い、中切っ先がやや延び心となる刀姿です。表に玉追龍、裏に三鈷剣の彫刻が彫られます。子細に観察すると精細な彫口がみえ、見事な出来です。地鉄は潤いに富んだ小板目肌で、所々地沸が付いて輝く美麗な鍛えとなります。刃文は小沸出来の直刃で、小沸付き明るく冴えます。刃中には小足が盛んに入り働きます。帽子はそのまま直ぐで先小丸へと返ります。本作は福岡県出身の名工の一人、宗重刀匠の秀作です。地鉄・刃文共に上品で、派手やかな彫刻と調和がとれており、御守刀として最適な逸品となっております。金着せ二重はばき。白鞘。

Shōwa to the present: destruction and revival
The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
