Weight: 710g (toshin only) It has arrived, it has arrived—a meito made by Omi no Kami Fujiwara Tsuguhiro in the early Edo period, Kanbun 13 (1673) (349 years ago). Kanbun 13 is a memorable year as the era name was changed, originally making it the first year of Enpo. Omi no Kami Tsuguhiro was the second son of the Shodai Echizen Yasutsugu and the younger brother of the Nidai Yasutsugu. He was a student of the Echizen-ke Shodai Yasutsugu and also served as a daisaku-sha for Yasutsugu’s swords. The fact that he went out of his way to cut the mei "Echizen-ju Shimosaka" is because Nagahama City in Shiga Prefecture, the birthplace of the powerful Shimosaka clan since the Kamakura period, is also the birthplace of the Shimosaka kaji. Therefore, Yasutsugu, Kotetsu, and Tsuguhiro were all of the same lineage, the same school, and were relatives. The tosho Tsuguhiro later worked in Echizen Fukui, Omi Zeze, and Edo. Chronologically, he is a senior kaji to Nagasone Kotetsu. This katana exhibits a Kanbun Shinto sugata similar to Kotetsu, with a wide motohaba, a noticeable difference between the motohaba and sakihaba, and shallow sori. The jigane shows an itame-hada mixed with masame-hada, appearing bright and high-quality. The horimono consists of skillfully carved bo-hi. The hamon begins with a sugu-cho yakidashi in nioi-deki with ko-nie, followed by gunome-ba with rounded heads, gunome-ba with pointed heads, gunome-ba with heads split in two like crab claws (kani-no-tsume), and mixed with yahazu-ba that point to the left and right. It also features tobiyaki, and the interior of the ha contains sunagashi and nie-suji, creating a spirited and bright blade that is truly magnificent. The boshi returns deeply in ko-maru; as he is famous as a wazamono, the workmanship is splendidly executed. On this occasion, we have received this sword from an elderly doctor and sukisha (connoisseur) who said, "We have grown old, so please pass this on at a low price to someone who will cherish it."
