This antique katana is signed by Nagahiro, a renowned swordsmith from the Choshu region active during the late Edo period (1866). The blade features an engraving of a Kurikara Ken and a dragon, along with a Sanskrit letter for Fudo Myo-o. It comes with an NBTHK Koshu Tokubetsu Kicho Certificate, an older form of certification, and is housed in a shirasaya.

The Edo period (1615 to 1868)
Under the Tokugawa peace the daishō became a regulated uniform, and demand gathered in the castle towns, above all Edo itself. The craft split two ways: brilliant display work for connoisseurs, and tested blades whose cutting results were sometimes inlaid in gold.
This work carries older NBTHK “Kichō”-era papers, which the NBTHK no longer issues and now regards as unreliable. To confirm the attribution, submission to an official Japanese examination body (such as the NBTHK or NTHK) for modern certification could be considered.
