NihontoWatchNihontoWatch鉄鐔の装飾は戦国時代末期に進化している。鍛えた地面に簡素な腕抜緒の穴を開けただけの装飾から、鋤彫による文様表現、真鍮象嵌、金銀の布目象嵌を施したものなど多様である。特に桃山期には時代を映して個性豊かな鐔が製作されている。この薄肉に鋤き下げた手法に特徴のある鎌倉鐔も、甲冑師鐔風に菊花透を施し、櫃穴の周囲にも雪輪文風に装飾を加え、唐草文には金箔を押すという極めて珍しい技法を採っている。時代の代わりつつある中で生まれた創造性の高い作で、資料的にも貴重である。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
