NihontoWatchNihontoWatch濃州赤坂は現在の岐阜県大垣市にあたり、古来、金生山の中央部である更紗山から、石灰石とともに良質な赤鉄鉱が採掘されており、これら良質な原料を用いた製鉄の技術が伝わります。同地は刀剣の製作に適した土地として繁栄し、永正年間(1504~)頃に兼定、兼元などが出て、美濃鍛冶の双璧として活躍します。金高は、室町時代末期の永禄頃から江戸時代中期の延宝頃まで名跡が続くと云われ、本作の金高は、永禄頃の初代金高と鑑みられます。「金高」、「濃州関住金高」などと銘を切り、現存作には、永禄七年の年紀のある作品などが確認されています。 本刀体配は、刃長が一尺一寸で平造りの寸延短刀です。地鉄は板目がやや流れ心に、杢目を交える鍛肌。刃文は互の目丁子で、匂口締り心に明るく冴え、特に小沸が焼刃の谷に厚く付き、刃縁には処々沸粒が輝きます。刃中には、地の働きがそのまま現れて、砂流しや金線、足などが良く入り盛んに働いて覇気があります。帽子はそのまま乱れて尖って返ります。本作に附いている拵は、素銅地の金具でまとめれた逸品が附いております。本品は美濃国を出身とする金高の一作。地色青く澄んで、焼刃冴え冴えとして華やかに乱れる同工の健全な秀作です。白鞘、金銀着二重はばき、変塗鞘短刀拵、特別保存刀剣鑑定書。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
