NihontoWatchNihontoWatch金高は美濃国関鍛冶で永禄から始まり元禄頃まで数代続いたといわれています。一般的に関鍛冶と言えば「兼」の字を冠する刀工がほとんどですが、僅かに兼の字を使わない刀工がおり、金高もその一人です。 本作は平造、丸棟、表腰元に二筋樋、裏腰元に棒樋があります。板目流れごころにやや白ける地鉄で、刃文は互の目、尖り互の目を主体とし、帽子は乱れ込んで返り深く棟焼きとなって、総体的にやや皆焼かがる出来です。 外装は黒石目笛巻塗鞘の合口拵です。金具は屈輪彫りの揃い金具に、小柄、笄は四分一地の永寿在銘の虎図です。目貫も四分一地で、扇形に虎図が片切彫りされています。桂永寿は筑後国久留米の生まれで、横谷英精の門に学び、郷里で独立開業し、久留米藩主有馬家のお抱工となりましたが、その後再び江戸に出たようです。かなりの長寿で、横谷式の赤銅魚子地に高彫り色絵の獅子や龍虎の作、また宗眠写しの一輪牡丹、鯉図などの遺作のある優工です。探りは元来丸形の梵字図でしたが、金具が外れて紛失とのことで、別のものを使用していますが、後から見つかっています。永寿在銘品や屈輪彫り揃い金具の拵をお探しの方にぜひおすすめしたい商品です。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
