NihontoWatchNihontoWatch剣竜子貞晴は大坂月山貞吉の門人で、月山貞一の兄弟々子になります。慶応から明治にかけて活躍した名工ですが、現存する作品の数は少なく貴重で、これは貞吉の代作を務めていた為と考えられます。 この脇指は刃長から見てもお判り頂けるかと思いますが、寸延びの短刀として鍛えられたものであり、身幅広く豪壮で、地鉄は小板目が良く練れて詰み、刃縁には柾気が強く現れ、それに絡んで刃文は総体に砂流が顕著に現れています。匂口は明るく、足頻りに入り、互ノ目には尖りごころの刃が交じり、物打から先は互ノ目丁子が棟に向かって大きく延び、やや皆焼がかった出来口を示し、帽子は乱れ込んで先直ぐに丸く返っています。 打粉を用いた保存手入がなされていたため、現状では地鉄にやや拭いぼけが見られますが、特段急ぎ化粧直しや再研磨の必要は無く、このまま地刃の観賞をお楽しみ頂けます。 出来良い一刀ですので、是非とも特別保存刀剣鑑定を御受審頂き、出世させて末長く御愛玩頂ければと思います。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
