Description

This modern wakizashi was signed by Enshu Jyu Mitsuhiro in Shizuoka prefecture in 1985. Mitsuhiro, born in 1915, was an apprentice of Miyaguchi Ikkansai Tsunetoshi and was known for forging blades in the Soshu tradition. The blade comes with a shirasaya case and is accompanied by a traditional sword carrying case and maintenance kit.

The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
