This tanto is signed by Toshizane (眠龍子寿実) and dated to February of Bunka 9 (1812), placing it in the late Edo period. Toshizane, son of the han-kaji Hamabe Toshinori, was known for his clear jigane and vibrant choji-midare hamon, sometimes incorporating Mount Fuji motifs. He was a highly skilled smith with a strong creative drive.
