The wind is fierce, and on the floating lotus leaves, the cool beads of water find their home, where the frogs are singing. (Go-Toba In, "Shin Goshui Wakashu, Volume 3, Summer") The lotus leaf and the frog have been composed in poetry and, since ancient times, have been a favored subject as an ideal pairing for paintings and vessels. In this work, the omote is finished in migaki-ji and the ura in ishime-ji. A frog with a small scar on its back is perched lightly upon the lotus leaf. It bears an indescribably humorous expression. Although mumei, it is likely a work by the Shoami Denbei school of Akita.

Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
