NihontoWatchNihontoWatchTadanori, who is said to be a pupil of either the 6th generation Akasaka Tadatoki or Akasaka Tadashige, is a skillful tsuba smith with a wide range of styles. He incorporated the techniques of not only Akasaka tsuba but also Echizen Kinai and the Bushu Ito school, making them his own. The well-forged tetsu-ji is fashioned into a vertically long mokko-gata, and the mimi is a shallow uchikaeshi. The surface, which has meticulous amida-yasuri applied, tapers gently toward the mimi. The takabori of a dragonfly, with its belly draped over the mimi of the tsuba and wrapping around to the ura side, is carved in great detail, down to the patterns on the segments and wings and the appearance of its spiny legs. It is an auspicious tsuba inhabited by a katsumushi (dragonfly).
