NihontoWatchNihontoWatchGinza Choshuya 東京都中央区銀座3-10-4 月–土 9:30–17:30 Tsuba "Ashihara ni kai" (Paddles floating in a reed marsh) 葦原に打ち捨てられた櫂を主題に、舟戦の跡を想わせる場面を彫り描いた作。明義は正阿弥派の流れを汲む陸奥国会津の鐔工で、東北地方を歴訪した河野春明の門人。鉄地を活かした作を巧みとし、師風の洒落た景色を、精巧な高彫象嵌で表現する手法を得意とした。この鐔も、抑揚変化のある鉄地で、霧か霞か気の立ち昇る風合いを演出している。葦は金象嵌、櫂は赤銅象嵌で、印象深い風景を生み出している。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
