NihontoWatchNihontoWatch江戸中期 Middle Edo period 記内鐔は越前国(現在の福井県)で制作された越前鐔の一系統で、江戸時代を通じて活動した記内家に伝わる作品群を指します。植物や動物、吉祥文などを題材とした透彫を特色とし、真鍮象嵌や金象嵌を施した作例も伝えられています。越前鐔を代表する流派の一つとして知られ、多くの優品が現在まで伝来しています。 本作は鉄地丸形に、一枚の葵の葉を鐔面いっぱいに大きく表した作です。葉の輪郭を大胆に取り、葉脈を細やかに刻み、左右の櫃穴は葵葉の内部に開けられ、直径八センチを超える大振りな姿と153グラムの量感も相まって、簡潔な題材ながら力強い存在感を備えています。 現状では錆色がやや冴えず、鉄味の魅力を十分に引き出している状態とはいえませんが、「越前住記内作」の銘を備え、記内らしい植物意匠を大きく堂々と表した一枚です。
