This is a kabuto hachi (helmet bowl) signed by Nagamichi, an excellent and recognizable maker from the mid-Edo period, circa 1750. It features three rows of thirty-one rivets, typical of the finest Saotome Ietada work, and retains a fine, dark patina. This is a kabuto hachi (helmet bowl) signed by Nagamichi, an excellent and recognizable maker from the mid-Edo period, circa 1750. It features three rows of thirty-one rivets, typical of the finest Saotome Ietada work, and retains a fine, dark patina. The maedate-dai is pierced with an inome (boar’s-eye) aperture, a signature element of this maker.

We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese armour is normally certified by the Nihon Katchū Bugu Kenkyū Hozon Kai (the armour society).
