Description

This is a hirazukuri wakizashi by Norimitsu of Bizen Osafune, dated to the 4th year of Eikyo (1432). Norimitsu is said to have originated from the Nagamitsu school in the late Kamakura period, but most of his existing works are from the mid-Muromachi period or later. A piece like this, dating back to the early Muromachi period, is extremely rare and valuable. It also features a kiritsuke-mei by Fujie Kiyomitsu from the 2nd year of Bunkyu (1862), indicating its quality as a 'Ryowazamono' (good cutting sword).
