NihontoWatchNihontoWatch本作は、「梅香を桜の花に匂わせて柳の枝に咲かせてしがな」（うめがかをさくらのはなににおわせてやなぎのえだにさかせたい）という後拾遺和歌集（ごしゅういわかしゅう・1086）にある中原致時（なかはらのむねとき）の和歌を題材にした鐔であろう。梅の香り、桜の花、柳の枝、それぞれの美しさが一体となった至高の花を夢想しながら、それぞれの持ち味の一番よい点だけを、一ところに集めたいという願いが込められている。平安遷都で京都の南に創建された城南宮の春の景色を詠んだという。本鐔は鑑定書に四分一石目地と記載されているが赤銅石目地と思われる。大振りで京正阿弥と極められた雅な鐔。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
