NihontoWatchNihontoWatch柳生鐔は、徳川将軍家の兵法指南役を務めた柳生連也斉厳包、ならびに柳生新陰流の思想と深く関わる鉄鐔である。華美な装飾を避け、鉄味を重んじた簡素かつ力強い作風を特徴とし、実用性と精神性を兼ね備えた武家好みの鐔として知られる。本作は隅入角形で重ね厚く角耳小肉になり、鉄味良く、耳には筋状の鉄骨もみられるなど、柳生鐔の典型で趣がある。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
