NihontoWatch宗勉刀匠は 昭和二年生。銘を筑州山王住宗勉作、筑州住宗勉作などと切り相州伝を得意とします。数々の受賞を果たし、無鑑査刀匠となります。本作は筑州山王住宗勉作と長銘を切っていることから入念作であり、作者が満足のいく仕上がりの一振りであることが判ります。宗勉刀匠は平成27年に88歳で他界されまた。数多くの名品を残した刀剣界の巨匠です。 体配は、二尺五寸を超える刃長で身幅元先広く、誠に立派で力強い姿の豪刀です。地鉄は、板目肌鍛えがよく現れ、地沸付いて地景入る強い鉄です。 刃文は、大きく乱れた互の目の丁子が交じりで、匂口もっとも明るく冴え、小沸がつくものです。刃中には足、砂流し、金線と様々な働きが現れており見所が満載で上々な出来映えです。帽子はそのまま大きく乱れこんで先尖り火炎風になって小丸へと返ります。茎の銘ぶりも名人らしく立派です。先にも説明の通り長銘。宗勉刀匠の場合、山王住と添えるものに名作が多いと云われています。この刀は本人にしてみても納得の作であったと思います。宗勉刀匠の代表作品と言える出来映えで、現代刀の精華を示す名誉の一振です。御家の守刀に相応しい御奨めの逸品です。 白鞘、金着二重はばき、保存刀剣鑑定書。 ※証書未着。掲載までお待ちください。

Shōwa to the present: destruction and revival
The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
