NihontoWatch大隅 俊平(おおすみ としひら、1932年1月23日 – 2009年10月4日)は、群馬県太田市出身の刀匠。本名は大隅貞夫(さだお)。1952年に長野県坂城町の刀匠、後の人間国宝である宮入昭平(行平)のもとに入門します。1960年より独立後、極初期は、備前伝風の乱れ刃の作品があり、1968年頃より大和伝、山城伝、備中青江派の直刃を基調とした作品の研究に努められ、後年「直刃の大隅」と賞賛されるに至りました。正宗賞を3度受賞するなど数々の賞を受賞し、1977年には群馬県指定無形文化財保持者、1997年には重要無形文化財保持者(人間国宝)に認定されました。1999年には紫綬褒章受賞。2001年敬宮愛子内親王に御守り刀を献上。2005年にも旭日中綬章を受賞しています。2009年10月4日、太田市の自宅にて77歳で亡くなりました。 本作体配は、刃長が八寸五分、身幅尋常、重ねやや厚く、内反り、品格のある刀姿の一口です。地鉄は小板目肌で、細かに地沸付き、深く澄んだ鍛肌となります。刃文は、同工の得意とする直刃を焼き、匂口締まり心に小沸が付いて、明るく冴えます。帽子はそのまま直ぐで先小丸に返ります。茎は勝手下がり鑢目で、刀工銘と年紀を刻します。人間国宝 大隅俊平刀匠の平成十三年紀の一作。同工の本領が発揮された上品な平造短刀です。白鞘、金鍍金二重はばき、特別保存刀剣鑑定書。

Shōwa to the present: destruction and revival
The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
A Hozon-certified blade judged to show notably superior workmanship and a better state of preservation. The bar is higher: re-tempered blades and most unsigned Muromachi/Edo works are excluded.
The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
