NihontoWatchNihontoWatch戦国期の伯耆国の刀工廣賀(ひろよし)と極められた、生ぶ茎無銘の平造脇差。廣賀は本国相模で、室町中期に伯耆国へ移住した。廣賀で最も著名なのが見田(みた)五(ご)郎左衛門尉(ろうざえもんのじょう)廣賀。刃味の優れた乱出来の作は武将の支持を得ており、天空の城備中松山城主三村元親も廣賀の刀に信頼を寄せた一人であった。 見田五郎左衛門尉廣賀の作と鑑られるこの平造脇差は、幅広で先反りの付いた量感のある造り込み。差表に不動明王、文殊菩薩の梵字と蓮台、裏には息災延命の願いが込められた六字明王の梵字と護摩箸の彫で、戦国武将の死生観を垣間見せている。板目鍛えの地鉄は、地景が太く入って肌起ち、地沸が厚く付いて沸映りが立つ。刃文は互の目に丁子、尖りごころの刃、矢筈風の刃、片落風の刃を交えて奔放に変化し、焼の谷に厚く付いた沸が煌めいて相州正宗の雪の叢消えの態となり、物打付近には飛焼が頻りに掛かって皆(ひた)焼(つら)風となる。刃中にも沸の粒子が充満し、焼刃は澄んで刃味の良さを窺わせる。帽子は掃き掛けて焼詰め、棟(むね)焼(やき)に連なる。相州物特有の舟底形の茎は浅い勝手下がり鑢が掛けられて見田五郎左衛門尉廣賀の特色が顕著。戦陣に立つ武将が腰に帯びた一振で、覇気に満ち満ちた優作となっている。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
