Koto Katana for Sale

Koto ("old sword") katana date from the earliest period of Japanese swordmaking through 1596, encompassing the golden age of the craft. This era produced the legendary Five Traditions (Gokaden) — Bizen, Soshu, Yamashiro, Yamato, and Mino — and the most celebrated smiths in history: Masamune, Sadamune, Go Yoshihiro, and Osafune Nagamitsu. Koto katana are distinguished by their use of locally smelted tamahagane steel, resulting in characteristic jigane patterns that cannot be replicated. They represent the most historically significant and collectible category of Japanese long swords.
