Kamakura Period Katana for Sale
Katana attributed to the Kamakura period (1185–1333) occupy a special place in collecting — and an honest page must begin with what they are: the uchigatana form barely existed then, so nearly every Kamakura blade offered as a katana today is a former tachi, shortened (suriage) in later centuries for practical wear. What the shortening spared is the heart of golden-age workmanship — Ichimonji and Osafune of Bizen, Awataguchi and Rai of Yamashiro, the early Soshu masters — in steel whose jigane and hamon still carry the period’s unmatched refinement.
