Description

This is a rare and valuable saddle (kura) made by Ise Surugano Kami Sadamasa, a master craftsman of the Ise family known for their superior saddle production during the Muromachi period. The Ise family, originally stewards of the Muromachi Shogunate, developed unique saddle-making techniques and were retained by the shogunal family. This piece, dated 1451 A.D., is a high-quality work made with the finest materials and techniques, featuring the family's traditional crests of 'Omodaka with swallow' and 'Maru ni Juji' (circle with cross).
