This is a Tokubetsu Hozon Token designated wakizashi by Echizen no Kami Yoshikado, an active smith for the Mito domain during the Edo period. The blade features a well-proportioned form with a finely forged jigane and a relaxed hamon of large notare-midare mixed with ko-gunome. The tang inscription indicates it was made in Edo after 19 years of training, suggesting it may have originally been part of a daisho pair.

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit.
