This wakizashi is signed by Hoju, an old smith from Oshu, active during the early Muromachi period (Ouei era). Hoju is known for his unique forging and hamon, with a dark, tough steel. Famous examples include a tachi in the Seikado Bunko and an odachi in Musashi Mitake Shrine (both Important Cultural Properties).
