This katana is signed by Jumyo, a smith from Mino Province active during the Momoyama period (around Tensho era). The Jumyo lineage is said to have originated in Yamato Province during the Einin era (Kamakura period) and continued for over ten generations. Swords by Jumyo were highly popular for their cutting ability and auspicious name, with the Tensho-era Jumyo serving the Sengoku warlord Inaba Ittetsu.
