This katana is signed by Yokoyama Fujiwara Sukemitsu, a swordsmith active in the late Edo period. He was born in Edo Aoyama in 1820 and worked at the Shirahatayama Weapons Manufactory established by Tokugawa Nariaki, lord of the Mito domain. The blade is dated to the 8th month of Bunkyu 2 (1862).
