【Product Description】 Blade Classification: Wakizashi Mei: Mumei (Den: Enju) Appraisal: NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token Nagasa: 45.1 cm Sori: 1.0 cm Motohaba: 2.8 cm Sakihaba: 1.9 cm Motokasane: 0.6 cm Sakikasane: 0.4 cm Mekugi-ana: 2 Weight: 395g (blade only) [Description] This is a Wakizashi attributed to the Enju school. The Enju school was founded in Higo Province (Kumamoto Prefecture) during the late Kamakura period by Taro Kunimura, who was the grandson of Rai Kuniyuki from Yamashiro. The school flourished as the official swordsmiths for the Kikuchi clan, and their workmanship closely resembles the Rai school style. The sugata features a standard mihaba and a moderate sori, maintaining a graceful form. The jigane is a dense itame-hada mixed with mokume, showing a refined texture with abundant jinie and shirake-utsuri appearing on the ji. The hamon is a gentle chu-suguha based on hoshi, with a bright and clear nioiguchi, containing fine ko-nie and sunagashi. The boshi is sugu with a ko-maru return. The koshirae is a high-quality koshirae featuring a black-lacquered saya. The tsuba is made of iron with openwork (sukashi), and the fuchi-kashira and menuki are crafted in shakudo with gold accents, showing excellent workmanship. This is a masterpiece that allows one to appreciate the elegant Yamashiro-den style characteristic of the Enju school. It is highly recommended for collectors.
