This antique Japanese Tanto is signed by Unju Nobukazu, an apprentice of the seventh-generation Sekido Korekazu, who was a famous Soshu-den swordsmith. Forged in 1867 during the late Edo period, this blade comes with an NBTHK Hozon certificate, confirming its authenticity and historical value. It is accompanied by a beautiful koshirae (mountings) and a shirasaya case.

Under the Tokugawa peace the daishō became a regulated uniform, and demand gathered in the castle towns, above all Edo itself. The craft split two ways: brilliant display work for connoisseurs, and tested blades whose cutting results were sometimes inlaid in gold.
