Description

It has appeared, it has appeared! A precious *tachi* with the *mei* of Kage(mitsu) (Kashu), of which few extant works remain today as most were consumed during the Sengoku period. Originally a *tachi* of 2 *shaku* 5 *sun*, it was shortened, leaving only the *mei* of "Kage" at the *nakago-jiri*. In the past, *tachi* by Kashu Kagemitsu were cherished in the storehouses of *daimyo* as masterpieces by Bizen no Kuni Osafune Kagemitsu. The first generation Kagemitsu (Kashu) was the son of Shinkei, who is said to be a pupil of Etchu Norishige. He was also a pupil of Fujishima Tomoshige of Kashu. The first generation Kagemitsu began around the Koryaku era (1379) (647 years ago) of the Nanbokucho period; this sword, bearing a *tachi-mei*, is by the second generation Kagemitsu from around the Oei era (1394) (623 years ago) of the early Muromachi period. The *tachi-sugata* shows a slight *koshi-zori* with a high *shinogi*, and a difference between the *moto-mihaba* and *saki-mihaba*. Even after 623 years, it maintains a healthy and excellent *tachi-sugata*. The *jigane* features a well-tightened *itame-hada* mixed with *masame-hada*, and a faint *utsuri* appears in the *ji*, giving it great character. The *hamon* is *nioi-deki* with *ko-nie*, consisting of a series of *gunome-ba*. The shoulders of the *gunome* are rounded and well-covered in *nie*, with many *kinsuji* appearing within the *ha*, creating a magnificent and spirited temperament. Since ancient times, Kashu Kagemitsu has been famous, but because many were mistaken for Bizen Osafune Kagemitsu, extant works by Kashu Kagemitsu are extremely rare, making this a precious *tachi*. Today, this is an indispensable sword for research purposes, not only for the people of Kaga but for all of Japan. However, the owner has entrusted it to us, saying, "We have grown old, so please pass it on at a low price to someone who will cherish it in the future." Therefore, we are offering it at a special bargain price. Please enjoy this masterpiece by Kage(mitsu) (Kashu), a brand whose few surviving works are even designated as *Juyo Token*, dating back 623 years.
