Description

Weight (excluding saya): 920g It has arrived, it has arrived—a rare Musashi no Kami Fujiwara Kanenaka katana, said to be a descendant of the famous Magoroku Kanemoto, the likes of which are seldom seen. Kanenaka’s ancestors hailed from Mino province, and he is a descendant of Magoroku Kanemoto from approximately 200 years later. Even the Asakura clan of Echizen, shugo daimyo who boasted 100 years of prosperity, were destroyed by Oda Nobunaga after the Battle of Anegawa. Subsequently, the famous Shibata Katsuie—known as "Oni Shibata" and feared by his neighbors as Oda Nobunaga's chief retainer—moved the populace from the Asakura stronghold of Ichijodani to Echizen Ichijo, the production site of this sword, to govern. After the Battle of Sekigahara, Yuki Hideyasu—the second son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, elder brother to the second shogun Hidetada, and former adopted son of Toyotomi Hideyoshi—changed his name from Yuki back to Matsudaira Hideyasu. He established the 670,000-koku Fukui Domain in Echizen, a strategic point on the Hokurikudo and the cornerstone of the Hokuriku defense line supporting Kyoto and Edo. As the head of the Gokemon, he held a special status among the Shinpan families, and the lineage flourished until the time of Matsudaira Shungaku, a wise lord of the late Bakumatsu period who was a central figure in the Kobu Gattai movement and shogunal reforms, including the backing of Hitotsubashi Yoshinobu. The maker of this sword, Musashi no Kami Fujiwara Kanenaka, lived in that same Echizen Ichijo and later, like Kotetsu, moved to Edo, the center of the Tokugawa Shogunate. He was a master smith of the Tenwa era (circa 1681, 345 years ago). This sword exhibits a fine sugata suitable for nukiuchi, with a noticeable difference between the motohaba and sakihaba and a graceful sori. The jigane is a finely packed ko-itame hada, appearing bright. The hamon is a nioi-deki style inherited from his ancestors, featuring the sanbonsugi (three cedars) togari-ba devised by Magoroku Kanemoto; it is skillfully tempered with a very spirited and bright edge. The koshirae is an old and precious Edo-period han-tachi koshirae made 250 years ago—around the same time as the founding of the United States—which adds further elegance to this Musashi no Kami Fujiwara Kanenaka katana. This sword has been carefully passed down through an old family for generations. However, as they have grown old, we have been entrusted to find a new owner who will cherish it, with the request to offer it at a low price. Therefore, we are providing this at a special, ultra-low price, even cheaper than a gendaito. Please enjoy this masterpiece by Musashi no Kami Fujiwara Kanenaka, descendant of the famous Magoroku Kanemoto, complete with its precious koshirae.
