Description

These antique Menuki from the Edo period are crafted from shakudō, an alloy of copper and gold, and depict Noh masks (Nohmen Zu). The design features a female mask and two kijin (demon or supernatural being) masks, specifically of the beshimi type with compressed expressions. Menuki are decorative metal fittings for Japanese sword handles, originally used to secure the mekugi but later evolving into significant artistic elements.
