Description

This antique Menuki from the Edo period features a Musha Zu (warrior scene) motif, depicting high-ranking samurai in luxurious armor engaged in a water battle, likely inspired by the Genpei War. Crafted from shakudō, an alloy of copper and gold, it originally had kin-iroe (gold overglaze) decoration, enhancing its elegant bluish-black patina. Despite some fading, the piece showcases the stern expressions and courageous appearances of the warriors.
