A small pair of menuki depicting three birds in silver, gold, and shibuichi, signed 'Hogen' on a silver plaque. Haruaki Hogen (1787-1857) was a prolific artist and teacher, studying with Yanagawa Naoharu. Although signed, this set is believed to be a student's work due to the way the 'gen' kanji is cut, but is nonetheless an extremely nice set by a gifted artist.
