About the maker
Yokoyama Sukenaga祐永
This is a work by Yokoyama Sukenaga, one of the swordsmiths who marked the end of the glorious Bizen sword tradition. Sukenaga was the second son of Sukehei and inherited the family headship when his elder brother Sukemori was adopted into the Sadasada family. His work is characterized by a muji-fu (plain) jigane with no visible grain, and a bright, tight nie-guchi in his signature ko-gunome choji hamon with clear ashi.
