About the maker
Yokoyama Sukekane祐包
This is a tanto by Yokoyama Sukekane, one of the last smiths of the glorious Bizen tradition, dated August 1847. Sukekane was the 5th generation descendant of Sozaemon Sukesada and grandson of Ise no Kami Sukehiro, claiming lineage from Tomonari. The blade features a tight ko-itame hada in a muji-fu style, with a bright gunome-choji hamon showing kinsuji and sunagashi, characteristic of his work. It comes with a contemporary koshirae featuring dyed leather and matching fittings.
