This is a tanto by Sumitani Masamine, a Living National Treasure. It features a wide body and long length, reminiscent of late Kamakura to Nanbokucho period blades. The hamon is gunome-midare with ko-nie, and the jigane is finely forged ko-itame-hada with ji-nie and fine chikei, typical of his work. The blade also features carvings by the master carver Yanagimura Senju, which received an excellence award at the New Sword Exhibition by the NBTHK.
