Description

This is a magnificent O-Yoroi (great armor) with a detailed history, crafted by Myochin Muneyasu for Lord Shimazu Nariakira of Satsuma province during the late Edo period. It features gold kozane (small scales) with a striking red and white striped lacing pattern. The armor was designed by Kurihara Ryuan, who researched ancient styles, and was presented to the British Empire as a token of friendship after the Satsuma-British War in 1863.
