Description

This is a fuchi-kashira set crafted by Michitoshi of Mito, featuring a design of karako (Chinese children) playing with Hotei (the Budai monk). Michitoshi, born in 1697, was a skilled artisan who studied under Gunji Koami and Nara Toshinaga, contributing significantly to the rise of Mito carving. The set is made of shakudo with an ishimeji (stone-grain) ground, high-relief carving, and inlay with colored metals.
