Description

This is a round tsuba made by Hirotsugu of the Haruta school during the middle Edo period. It features a design of flowing water and scattered cherry blossoms (Ryusui Ouka-chirashizu) carved in iron with a stone-like texture (Tetsuishimeji) using the sukidashibori technique. Haruta Hirotsugu was a leading craftsman of the Haruta school, which began as an armor maker, and he was from Echizen Haruta.
