Description

This is an iron tsuba featuring a dragonfly and butterfly design, signed by Shoami Masanori, a highly skilled metalworker from Kyoto's Shoami school during the mid-Edo period (Genroku era). The tsuba showcases intricate gold nunome-zogan (cloth-eye inlay) for the arabesque patterns, shibuichi sue-mon zogan for the dragonfly, and delicate ito-sukashi (thread openwork) for the butterfly's wings. It comes with a kiribako (paulownia wood box) with a hakogaki (box inscription) by Kyodo from 1965.
