Overview

no Kami Masatsune is the second generation of the Owari Masatsune line. The published sources state his place plainly: 「美濃守政常は岐阜大道の子で相模守政常の養子となり、政常二代目といわれる」 ( no Kami Masatsune was a son of Gifu Daido, became the adopted son of no Kami Masatsune, and is called the second Masatsune). His adoptive father, the founder who first signed Kanetsune, worked at Kiyosu beside Nobutaka and Ujifusa and is counted among the Owari Sansaku.

Two signed works stand in the designation record under his name, both with a long signature cut with a thick chisel. The first is a signed no Kami Fujiwara Masatsune with a , broad in body with a large point, the Keicho form of the period. Its flows and stands slightly; the temper is a large with , the coarse and gathered in clusters, the subdued, and the runs in on a with a short return. The published sources call it 「尾張関得意の湾れ刃であり、刃中に働きがみられるよい作であり、銘文の花押も珍しい」 (the in which the Owari Seki smiths excelled, a good work with activity in the , and the in the signature is itself rare).

The second is a of flat triangular section. Over an mixed with and he tempers a wide , deep in with , the again subdued, and the runs straight and burns through to the tip. Here the published sources tie him to his adoptive father's speciality: 「初代政常には槍、薙刀の優品があるが、二代目もその技を継いで上手であり、本作の笹穂槍もその好例である」 (the first Masatsune left fine and , and the second generation inherited that skill and was accomplished in it, of which this is a good example).

With only these two works on record, he is known through his adoptive father's school and through the subdued both pieces share. Each is designated , and a signed piece of his hand is correspondingly scarce.
